The world of music has changed because the world has changed. The measurement mechanisms from a decade ago are no longer valid today. At the same time that supply has increased, demand has decreased. Until the 90s, having a degree in music meant employability almost completely. Today, we cannot say the same.

What will a student of trumpet, piano, harp or singing, of composition or conducting, of pedagogy or musicology find in the future? In the absence of a crystal ball to give us an answer, the most likely reality is that they will not have a job. And yes, it sounds not very hopeful.

But far from showing a dystopian future where music is no longer useful, we must look at the present as an opportunity so that in a few years our young musicians, in addition to being graduated, multi-mastered and with real employability options, have training that allows them to differentiate themselves, where merit is based on effort and a straight path of educational possibilities.
